Staged living room with a gray sofa, two light armchairs and a tile fireplace.

Before your first design call

Planning a furnishing project

Bring a few photographs, your priorities and the questions you haven’t resolved. You don’t need a finished design brief to start a useful conversation.

Go to the room brief

An introductory call helps us understand what you have in mind and whether the project is a fit. For Nob Hill Style’s room furnishing service, the complimentary 30-minute call follows a project-fit review. Detailed design begins after scope and fees are agreed.

Start with how you want to live

Think about what you would like to do in the room. You might want a comfortable place to read, room to gather around the table, or a layout that connects the living and dining areas. Note which changes matter most to you.

Reference images can help explain your direction. Add a sentence about what draws you to each one: the furniture arrangement, colors, light or a particular material. That gives us more to discuss than a folder of images alone.

Show us what’s already there

Gather photographs from several corners, including doorways and adjoining spaces. Bring any floor plans or dimensions you already have, marking estimates as estimates. Measurements for ordering still need to be verified.

Make a short list of pieces you want to keep, those you might keep and those you’re open to replacing. Dimensions, condition and a few words about why a piece matters help us understand where to begin. These notes support the conversation; they don’t commit you to a purchase or a final layout.

Your room brief

Use these prompts for a few notes before the call. Start with what you know and leave room for questions.

Choose a few reference images. Note what you like about each.

The investment you’re considering

Note your overall range and what you expect it to include.

Timing that matters

Share a move, gathering or other date, along with any flexibility.

Questions for the conversation

Which decisions would you like help working through?

Mark estimated measurements as estimates. These notes help start a conversation; dimensions for ordering still need to be verified.

Think about the whole investment

Note the overall range you’re considering and what you expect it to cover. A furnishing plan can include furniture, design services, delivery and installation. Ask how each appears in the proposal.

Nob Hill Style’s room furnishing projects start at $25,000 in total investment, including furnishings and design services. The proposal sets out the specific scope, fees, delivery and installation arrangements. This is the furnishing offer, not a price for every design service.

Leave with a next step

Ask what happens after the call, what information is still needed and when scope and fees will be agreed. You don’t have to settle every design decision in the first conversation.
